Clutch HoopersHotel Index

Independent hotel index

Four kinds of hotel. Eleven places worth knowing.

Clutch Hoopers is a short, edited list. Art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and one hotel made of ice — each described in plain prose, so you can decide what fits before you go looking for dates.

    Art Hotels

Some of these hotels commission work. Others were shaped by one designer from the floor tiles up. All three are places where the art is part of the stay, not a lobby afterthought.

    Capsule Hotels

Small rooms, stacked pods and lofts reached by ladder. The trade is simple: less private floor, more city on the doorstep. Each one pairs the tight sleeping space with a common area worth leaving the bed for.

    Casino Hotels

These are large hotels first: towers of rooms, restaurants, theatres and spas. The gaming floor sits inside that mix. Four Canadian properties, each tied to a landmark — a waterfall, a river, a lake, an Expo site.

    Ice Hotels

One hotel, in Swedish Lapland, made from the river that runs past it. Artists shape new suites every winter; a permanent building keeps the ice going year-round.

That's the whole index. No rankings, no ratings, no booking engine — just eleven hotels, described carefully, with the rest of the decision left to you.
